me and white supremacy – Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Laylae Saad

This is a powerful and informative book. I not only read it, I completed the workbook section also. In the past I would have read the title of this book, and looked away thinking that this book is not meant for me. On May 25, 2020 that changed. My heart cracked open, allowing me to know and understand that I MUST educate myself on this topic.

In years past, I had been apathetic, stayed silent, ignorant of the enormity of this situation, and thinking that none of this applied to me because I am a good person. The days following May 25th, I chose to educate myself and my eyes and mind have been opened to the horrors that my brothers and sisters have been living. I think many of us feel this book is not meant for us. Let your heart guide the way. It doesn’t have to be this book. Choose any of the books, talks, or movies out there and educate yourself on the definition of white supremacy and white privilege. It’s not what you may think.

Quote from the book, “There is no clean, comfortable, or convenient way to dismantle a violent system of oppression. You must roll up your sleeves and get down into the ugly, fertile dirt.”
